Abstract

The paper focuses on the teacher's status in modern society, in modern education system that is being reformed, in the 'teacher-student' relationship. The author argues that reforms in education turn out to be ineffective because of certain changes in its content that leave moral and ethical development of children outside the educational process. Today, in the age of computers and new technologies, the need for the highly professional teacher capable of teaching children how to coexist and communicate with each other, how to know themselves and to make the right (moral!) choice in their life, – this need is highly evident today. The author argues that professional development of teachers should enable them to solve the most fundamental existential problems of human life. It is this that one of the core conditions of continuing pedagogical education, 'psychologisation' of teacher's consciousness and activity, is aimed at.
