Identifying and Preventing Deviant Behaviour in Schoolchildren

The author proposes an alternative definition of deviant behaviour, in which the criterion is when one consistently destroys communication and interaction in the social group to which he or she belongs. Insufficient (due to the child's age) development of some functions of human consciousness can be considered one of the preconditions of juvenile deviant behaviour: the relative narrowness of time perspective, the appraisal of actual situations as happening 'here and now', the dominance of one's own needs upon group values. These assumptions underlie the technique developed for preventing reoccurrence of deviant behaviour in elementary and high school students; this technique has proved its efficiency in various educational institutions.
