Learning Styles and Quality of Engineering Education in the Digital Society

2

Abstract

The feasibility of taking into account individual learning styles when developing an optimal strategy of engineering education in the digital society is substantiated in the paper. The classification of learning styles based on the concept of three-phase learning cycle by D. Kolb is considered.  A brief characterization of each of them is given. The results of the study of learning styles of engineering students are presented. To study the learning styles of respondents we used the method «Learning Styles Questionnaire» by P. Honey, A. Mumford in the adaptation of A. D. Ishkov, N. G. Miloradova. The prevalence of theoretically oriented learning styles («thinker» and «theoretic») over practice-oriented styles («pragmatist» and «activist») was revealed. The structure of learning styles was determined taking into account the factor of students' gender.
