Some aspects of personality education in incomplete family (on materials of studies by Russian and foreign authors)

4194

Abstract

The present article analyzes the transformation tendencies of family as a social institute (increasing number of divorces, decrease of birth-rate, tendency for spouses‘ autonomy), includes an analysis of existing forms of family and a detailed description of incomplete family which is now wide-spread. The author identifies the main reasons of incomplete family origin (divorce, extra-matrimonial birth, widowhood) as well as additional reasons which are mostly intrinsic to modern society (adoption of a child in absence of a constant partner, family break-up as a result of emigration). The article reflects the results of research concerning incomplete family and the influence of upbringing in a mono-parental family on personality conducted by psychologists, sociologists, demographers of Russian and Latin American schools of thought. It identifies negative (low socioeconomic status of a single mother, high risk of decrease of school performance, weak health and anxiety of children) and positive (higher independence, determination to work) aspects of upbringing in an incomplete family.
