1073

Abstract

The article traces the history of development and establishment of the system of working with gifted children in the USA. It describes modern state of this system and analyzes its strengths and weaknesses. It is noted that the USA is the leader in quality and diversity of practices aimed at identification, development and support of gifted children. In this country the promising learners receive scholarships, have opportunity to visit additional classes, participate in summer schools, take advanced or accelerated training course. There have been developed multiple programs of support of gifted children, from creation of scientific clubs and societies to psychological counseling and support of the learners. At the same time the article notes that the representatives of the Department of education of the USA and other organizations express concern with the state of affairs in the field of working with gifted children. It is related, primarily, with the absence of a single national program of search and support of talented youth, which leads to incoordination in the work of services both within one state and between states.
