Motivation for Applying to University in High School and University Students

Abstract

The article addresses the problem of motivation for applying to universities as a component of one's readiness for studying at university. 'University readiness' is a complex system formation that affects one's success in learning. The article describes the findings of a pilot study on the problem that was carried out in Moscow in 2005-2006; the participants were high school students and first-year university students. The findings show that not all participants have an adequate level of motivational readiness for applying to university; moreover, motivational readiness tends to change over the period from high school to first year at university.
