Algorithms as New Keepers of Knowledge: Prospects and Challenges of Using Artificial Intelligence in Education

Abstract

The ongoing process of digitalization and the consistent introduction of artificial intelligence technologies are fundamentally changing many areas of our lives, including education. The purpose of this work is to analyze the use of artificial intelligence technologies in higher education, as well as the importance of algorithms and their role as new gatekeepers of education. The results of the study show that, although the use of artificial intelligence technologies at the university level may expand in the long term, ethical issues and bridging the digital divide will remain the most serious problems to be faced. It can be assumed that with the help of artificial intelligence, individual learning environments will be created using algorithms that will act as new keepers of knowledge.
