The potential of socio-psychological models for the development of prevention programs (Part 2)

The paper discusses the possibilities of socio-psychological knowledge for the development of prevention programs in the field of health. The focus of attention is the approach of social identity. The paper deals with studies carried out in the framework of the theory of social identity and self-categorization theory in connection with the problems of health and disease. We conclude that health is not an individualized phenomenon, and the social dimension plays primary role in this regard. We emphasize that the group has a positive influence on human health, this effect is important to take into account while formulating the concept of prevention measures in the field of health. The quality of patients’ social life should be considered by health professionals as a key factor in the recovery of these patients. We note that social identity theory has gained a solid amount of knowledge during its existence for more than four decades, and addressing the health problems is kind of a shift from the "laboratory" into the "field"; the application of this theory to the field of health is enough productive and has future prospects.
