Problems of the psychology of sex has long attracted the attention of researchers, but the history of their empirical study is much shorter. At the moment the impetus for further development of this problem comes not only from the theoretical interest, but also from the practical necessity. Psychologists working in counseling, clinical and forensic psychology greatly require new knowledge on the gender-specific typological features of psyche, on disorders in gender identity, on the associated deviations of the regulatory processes as well as on states of personal and social disadaptation. There is a great need in concepts that simulate and explain the processes behind these phenomena as well as allow for adequate applied consultative and expert work. The need for psychodiagnostic methodological tools for identifying and describing the individual differences in psycho-sexual sphere is not less important. Despite the relative plenitude of literature on gender issues, a perfect combination of all the above mentioned aspects in modern editions is rather rare. Therefore, the book by N.V. Dvoryanchikov, S.S. Nosov and D.K. Salamova is of special interest for psychologists, since it combines the theoretical and methodological analysis with results of empirical studies and presentation of specific research methods.
