Experience in Development of "The Dictionary of Emotions" Methodology for the Diagnosis of Cognitive Component of Emotional Intelligence of Primary School Children

9

Abstract

The article describes the results of testing the diagnostic technique "Dictionary of emotions". The technique is designed to determine the diversity of children's vocabulary in the field of marking emotions and feelings, intended for younger schoolchildren. The test forms contain photographs of children, in which they interact and show different emotions and feelings. Each photo is accompanied by a text describing the situation. Cards from the game “Developing Emotional Intelligence” by Yu. Gippenreiter were used as stimulus material. Respondents need to name and write down in the form the name of the emotion that the child depicted in the photo is experiencing in a specific, presented situation. Diagnostics can be carried out both in a group and in an individual format. Two parameters are used as indicators of the methodology: the number of words (without repetitions) that the child uses to describe emotional states, and the number of correct answers (the named emotion corresponds to the depicted situation). The approbation was carried out on primary school children aged 6-11 years with typical development (96 people). The article provides data on the validity and reliability of the methodology, as well as a percentile scale of test norms. The proposed methodology can be recommended for conducting research, evaluating the effectiveness of emotional intelligence development programs, and for individual work with younger schoolchildren.
