Research of interrelation of preferred coping strategies and ethno-national mindsets of Moscow young people

Abstract

The contribution is dedicated to the research of interrelation of ethno-national mindsets and strategies of coping with difficult situations of Moscow young people. 105 persons aged from 16 to 19 participated in the research – students of high school and first course of university. Using the methods of correlational and regression analysis the authors identified a relation between nationalist mindsets and migrantophobia and the strategy of search for social support, gender specifics of interrelation between ethno-national mindsets and strategies of coping with difficulties. Young people with expressed nationalistic and patriotic mindsets have different ways of coping with difficulties: boys display aggression and preparedness to risk more often, and girls search for help in their surroundings and decrease the responsibility for the events. Using the method of cluster analysis the authors identified groups of testees with different profiles of ethno-national mindsets and found differences between these groups in strategies of searching for social support, confrontation and accepting responsibility.
