Dynamics of Self-Regulation Development in Male Adolescents Living in Orphanages

Abstract

The article describes results of a research on behavioural self-regulation (personally significant sense and values, reflection, activity) in boys aged 9–16 years brought up in social orphanages. It is shown that the components of behavioural self-regulation differ and develop unevenly. For example, almost all differences referring to values and senses tend to flatten out by the time the boys reach 15–16 years, whereas the ones referring to reflection and activity either increase or persist. The article also reveals features of behavioural self-regulation that are characteristic of orphanage boys and that persist throughout adolescence.
