Investigations of private (egocentric) speech in children with normal development

Abstract

The article gives reason for necessity of introducing the term “private speech” (PS). The article is focused on the empirical study of PS conducted by scholars of three western Universities which is unprecedented from the point of view of the domains under investigation. Studies of PS by western scholars are compared to the ones by Russian scientists with a special focus on a recently published work by L.I. Bozhovich. The article purposefully draws the readers’ attention to a limited number of the latest empirical studies in order to help Russian scholars to orientate in the area of modeling the PS empirical investigation.
