Functionality, Temperament and Development of Personality in Preschool Children: a Pilot Study

993

Abstract

We conducted a pilot study of connections between temperament, functionality, personal maturity, and individual social competence of children (N = 54; age 5913 months; 47 children with typical development, 2 - with autistic spectrum disorders, 1 - with cerebral palsy, 1 - with Down's syndrome, 2 - with mental developmental delay) attending inclusive kindergarten groups. The following methods were uses: the short version of the questionnaire "F-07", "Children's Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) ", "Scale of child's personal maturity", "The assessment scale of educational competencies of preschool children." The obtained data shows that individual social competence of children has significant positive connections with functionality (r = 0,86; p <0,1E-15), the maturity of personality (r = 0,81; p <0,1E-12), effortful control (r = 0,57; p <0,0001). Study findings give the presumption that we can predict the formation of individual social competence based on the monitoring functionality and personal maturity of the child. Confirmation of this hypothesis requires conducting of a longitudinal study on a larger sample.
