Psychotherapt in social work: the history of ideas

The article is dedicated to the problem of interconnection of psychotherapy and social work. Describing the history of the difficult relationship of the two disciplines in the history of American and European social work and the confronation between clinical social work and community-based practice, the author raises a question whether and to what extent psychotherapy can be a part of social work practice. This aspect could be particulary interesting to psychotherapists and social work pracitioners in Russia, where we are beginning to learn more about social roots of many problems and where social work profession is at the stage of it's shaping, therefore different roads can be taken.
