Recollections on Josephina Ilyinichna Shif

Abstract

The article focuses on the scientific life of J.I. Shif and on her contributions to surdo- and oligophrenopsy-chology. Along with studies on intellectual and personal development of deaf and oligophrenic children, J.I. Shif's work (joint with her colleagues) on preparing one of the volumes of the collected works of L.S. Vygotsky for publication form an important part of her scientific life. Through the recollections of her colleagues, students and relatives one can easily see that she was a very honest, kind and generous person, a brilliant scientific adviser and lecturer.
