Personal security strategies for pedagogical university students

3

Abstract

The study investigates students’ personal security strategies as individual preferences in organising a safe life during the period of professional training. The proposed theoretical model of personal security strategies is tested in an empirical study conducted on a sample of 250 junior students of a pedagogical university. The methods of formalised interview and questionnaire survey are used, as well as the author’s questionnaire-type methodology to identify personal security strategies. The results of the study show that the majority of students (53%) take their safety seriously enough, understanding it not only as the observance of “everyday safety”, but also as planning secure life. At the same time, the different security strategies realised by the students were revealed: strategy of personal development (40.8%), strategy of avoidance (30.4%), strategy of using available opportunities (22.8%). It is concluded that the attitude to personal security is clearly enough represented in the consciousness of students, has an adaptive function and is implemented in behavior in the form of personal security strategies of various types.
