Possibilities of Stress Regulation in Students of Pedagogical University

15

Abstract

The article discusses the concepts of stress, stress resistance, coping behavior, coping strategies as interpreted by domestic and foreign authors, the purpose, and main tasks of coping. The analysis of current stress, the level of its regulation, and the coping strategies applied by students of a pedagogical university showed that more than 50% of the respondents have a high level of current stress, with a very high level detected among students in defectological and natural science directions of preparation. The level of stress regulation (high and medium) was diagnosed, which demonstrated both the adequacy for 44% of the subjects (stress level reduced to normal) and the inadequacy in strength and resistance to stress factors for the remaining respondents (stress remains at high and very high levels). Students use both adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies to regulate the level of stress. Meanwhile, the adaptive coping strategies used by students (self-control, social support, problem-solving planning, positive reappraisal of the situation) statistically significantly reduce the level of current stress.
