Socialisation of Personality in the Context of Co-Existence with the Others

1026

Abstract

The paper discusses socialisation of personality in the context of an individual’s co-existence with the others. Co-existence thus becomes the sphere of socialisation. The paper analyses the object and subject positions of personality and the relationship between ‘Self’ and ‘the Other’ from the perspective of the exchange of meanings, of social experience of the Others and the experience of co-existence both acquired by the individual. The development of the subject position can be regarded as the effect of socialisation. The paper also highlights the importance of taking into account the principle of diachrony when analysing dynamic aspects of socialisation.
