Social support as a strategy to cope with culture shock

Abstract

This article presents an overview of the cross-cultural research on the social support as a culture shock coping strategy. Social support is analyzed as one of the major strategies which posi- tively correlates with successful level of adaptation in sojourners. Major groups of people who can pro- vide social support are categorized based on the criteria of cultural identity and closeness of social ties.
