Adult image in orphaned children raised in group home

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of socialization of orphans growing up in institutions. The decisive role of a significant adult in a child’s personal and social development is emphasized; the most important aspects of perception of an adult are outlined. The article presents the results of empirical research of image of an adult in orphaned children. The article describes original method of play diagnostics that includes different role positions of an adult such as partner in communication, caregiver, authority figure, educator. The in the research two samples of elder preschoolers (5–7 years old) living in institutions and in families were compared. The results prove that an orphaned child perceives an adult as a person who does not respect child’s rights and interests, hampers child’s initiative and acts in directive manner to fulfill his (her) own goals.
