The role of verbal expression in the comparison of objects in the subjective assessment of the degree of similarity
Abstract
The experimental study is dedicated to analysis of the role of free verbalization of similar or different characteristics of like and unlike art photographs in the subjective evaluation of the degree of similarity of these objects. We detected significant differences in the subjective assessments of similarity with the verbalization of similar characteristics in unlike images. However, a significant difference in subjective assessments of similarity of like images in situations of presence/absence of the procedure of verbalization was not revealed. We demonstrated the phenomenon of coupling of processes of verbalization of similarities and differences in pictures. It is shown that the ratio of representation of the classification and gradual way of verbalization are opposite in the situations of comparison of similar and dissimilar images. The advantage of using any particular mode of verbalization of differences of objects depends on degree of their subjective similarity.
