Representations of Fairness in Adolescents who are Brought up without Parents

The article discusses the results of an empirical study of representations of fairness in adolescents who are brought up without a family. The sample included orphans and children left without parental care. Such representations of fairness components as belief in a just world, adoption of social axioms, and attitude to collectivism and individualism are analyzed. The data, which shows the number of features in the representations of fairness in adolescents brought up without a family, were obtained. It is shown that social and emotional deprivations, which inevitably distinguish education in Russian social institutions, leads to underdevelopment of belief in a just world in adolescents, which, in turn, affects on representations about justice in adolescents. The low level of belief in a just world potentially enhances sensitivity to exploitation and suspicions, also it may enhance the selfish and antisocial manifestations in the behavior of adolescents. An attitude “the world fairer for others” has been found in adolescents from boarding school, also fixation on the sacrificial position in situations of injustice has been found in the same subjects.
