Abstract

The paper continues the cycle of lectures by Igor Borisovitch Grinshpun on the history of psychotherapy. The first part of the third lecture raises the issues of the historiogenesis of psychotherapy: various methodological approaches are considered, the concept of Thomas Kuhn’s paradigms and the concept of “the spirit of the time” are analyzed in relation to the history of psychotherapy. The role of the therapist’s personality in the emergence of new areas of psychotherapy is discussed. And also begins a conversation about psychoanalysis: the question of the date of its origin is raised, the characteristic of the books dedicated to the founder of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud is given. Freud’s relationship with some of his closest associates is described. The myths surrounding psychoanalysis are being debunked. The history of psychoanalysis in Russia is touched upon.
