On the Methodological Culture of Psychologists (From Monism to Pluralism)

1621

Abstract

The article addresses the current state of scientific methodology in relation to psychology. It is argued that methodology has developed to such an extent that a need has arisen for a special methodology for choosing and applying methodology in particular sciences. Special attention is drawn to the role of art as a kind of methodology: art nourishes intuition, whereas methodology nourishes discourse. The article also presents propedeutics of methodological culture and critically assesses — or rather problematises — a set of methodological principles typical of modern psychology. Finally, the problem of the compatibility/incompatibility of polarities that have existed in psychology for centuries and provoked a lot of arguments is discussed as well.
