Rural Area Structure in Bosporan Kingdom in I—II AD as a Reflection of the Man Nature Relationship

Abstract

The article analyses the structure of rural area in BosporanKingdom in the beginning of the Current Era. Human settlements and sacred places are described as elements of one communicative network that united people enabling them to exchange information. The very notion of communication is extended within this work in such a way that it comprises not only routes of communication, but also the reach of sight and the reach of sound between various settlements as well as religious and psychological aspects. The author especially focuses on the reconstruction of people's perception of the world, upon the meaning they ascribed to various events and facts of reality. The structure of the territory appears as a reflection of religious beliefs of ancient people, of their spiritual and psychological needs. The issues concerning the looks of certain settlements, their spatial organisation and the building of a number of fortresses in Bospor are also discussed in the article. The first, theoretical part of the article is then succeeded by the analysis of scared places, of the role of religious rituals in social communications, and of the impact of settlement growth and fortification upon psychology and mentality of people.
