694

Abstract

The article focuses on the senses, matter and functions of the concept of leading activity that have been developed in Russian psychology. It gives a historical analysis of this concept, from the first mentioning of leading activity by L.S. Vygotsky to V.V. Davydov's implementation of his own project of leading activity in mass pedagogical practice. Several ways of discussing the disadvantages of leading activity as a modern conceptual tool are critically analysed as well. The article presents the author's views about the high effectiveness of the concept of leading activity as a means for designing and forming developmental stages in the practice of modern developmental education.
