Abstract

The article is an attempt to show that the method of stage-by-stage formation developed from the experimental-genetic method. The method of stage-by-stage formation reveals the conditions, in which the transition from non-mental to mental, from inter-mental to intra-mental form is carried through. The article describes the systems of transition conditions and gives A.N. Leontiev's study on memory as an example of experimental-genetic method implementation. In that study, the researcher interferes in the processes he examines, guiding and activating further development, which makes it possible to judge the ways and factors of such development. The role of the researcher is active in both methods: s/he is the "designer" of examined changes. Both methods require that the researcher has a hypothetic notion of the genesis and development of mental process in its "natural" conditions, as well as notions of its characteristics that will only be developed in laboratory conditions by means of guided formation. The authors conclude that
