Face-symbols as psychological tools

1229

Abstract

The article gives a theoretical analysis of the possibility to regard human face as a study subject in cultural-historical psychology. The author states that such study is quite rightful and potentially fruitful, and concludes that a face is a multifunctional psychological tool (in terms of L.S. Vygotsky). He puts forward a hypothesis that eyes play the most important role in estimating one's physical attractiveness (eyes-hypothesis). The article gives results of several Russian and foreign studies that can be regarded as a proof of the hypothesis.
